I don’t know what it is about the character of Mary Marvel…or Captain Marvel…that fascinates me. Maybe, in the case of the Cap, it’s the idea of a kid being able to transforms into a superpowered adult at will. Who of us wouldn’t have liked to speak a magic word and then “SHAZAM!” we could do anything?

Maybe these characters tap into that memory as a child. Longing for a way to deal with a world that seemed so much bigger than you were. Come to think of it, I guess most of us still feel that way.
